ASU WINS TOP HONORS AT UK FORMULA STUDENT COMPETITION WITH SUPPORT FROM ELSEWEDY CABLES

Sep-2023

For the past 25 years, the UK Formula Student competition has challenged student teams to produce a working prototype of a single-seat race car for autocross or sprint racing, with a combination of formal presentations and on-track dynamic events used to test their engineering skills.

The Ain Shams University racing team “ASU” participated in the competition and was ranked the “Concept Class Overall Winner” for the year 2023, which was organized by the “Institution of Mechanical Engineers”, securing the 1st place trophy and the best team in the total overall score for the design, manufacturing, cost of manufacture and marketing plan development, outperforming all competing universities, which amounted to 37 international universities.

Elsewedy Cables is so proud to be a vital part of this great success by providing their Automotive wires and cables for ASU’s racing car in the competition. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, confirmed that the students have outperformed their competitors, which assures the superior practical ability they acquired resulting from receiving the highest level of education that copes with the requirements of the times and the labor market and what the current global stage of

innovation requires. The team presented a complete marketing plan for a program and a system to transform normal cars into self-driving cars.

The competition was divided into two sections. The 1st section was for the category of cars with a driver, for both internal combustion engines and electric motors, in which the team was ranked 20th in the overall standings globally, which is considered the highest position achieved by a team from Africa and the Middle East, while the 2nd section was for self-driving cars, and because of how challenging this category is, only 20 teams worldwide participate, in which the ASU team was ranked 5th in the overall standings of this category globally.

It is noteworthy that the Ain Shams Engineering Racing Team “ASU” is a student organization with a primary goal of manufacturing cars in Egypt. The team was able to participate in many competitions in previous years and achieve great achievements such as the Formula Student 2018 competition in England, and the Shell Eco-Marathon in Malaysia.

Structured cabling is the passive infrastructure that supports the transmission of data, voice, and video signals in a building or campus. It consists of various components, including twisted pair cables, fiber optic cables, and cable accessories. Twisted pair cables are the most common type of cabling used in structured cabling systems. They are composed of two insulated copper conductors that are twisted together to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI). The most common types of twisted pair cables used in structured cabling are UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and FTP (Foiled Twisted Pair). Fiber optic cables are another type of cabling used in structured cabling systems. They are made up of glass or plastic cores that transmit light signals. Fiber optic cables are generally used for long distances or high-bandwidth applications. Structured cabling systems typically include a variety of components, such as closures, patch panels, outlets, modules, racks, and cabinets. Closures are used to terminate and splice cables. Patch panels are used to connect cables to other network devices. Outlets are used to provide access to the network for end users. Modules are used to connect cables to patch panels. Racks and cabinets are used to house and organize cabling components. The type of cabling and components used in a structured cabling system will depend on the specific needs of the network.
